Presentations

Thinking Differently in the 21st Century Classroom
Steve Jobs once challenged us to think differently about technology. In this keynote presentation, I challenge educators to think differently about their classroom. From classroom design, to technology and social media. I put forth the notion that we can push our students forward if we simply think differently because “the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

Trends and Tools for 21st Century Learning
This session is a fun look at the exciting things that happen when educators step outside their classrooms and try new tools. It reinforces the importance of relationships while encouraging teachers to become learners again through positive examples of student success. I will also discuss the topic of self-directed professional development and describe what it takes to build your own “personal learning network”.

Virtual Integrity
One can barely go a day without reading something about digital citizenship and the ethical use of media. This presentation demonstrates a new approach to teaching Internet Safety. How can our belief system affect not only what media we consume and purchase, but also how we view and use the Internet. The presentation will focus on virtues and how they should assist the 21st century student in decision-making about media and Internet use through the perspective of personal integrity.

Engaging Learners with Digital Tools
In this session I share free tools as well as stories about schools and classrooms that have used them to engage learners and learning. I teach educators to use exciting tools to reach even the reluctant learners. I also explore some of the tools educators can use to engage kids are growing up online while teaching them to be responsible online.

Digital Leadership
This presentation is designed for educational leaders during which I share tools and ideas for seeing the future and adapting to it in time to lead schools in positive, new directions.

Getting Personal with Social Media and Learning Networks
This session is an exploration of social networks as learning tools. Through numerous examples I will invite participants to begin developing their own Personal Learning Network. I will help participants see the effectiveness of these engaging learning environments, while sharing the importance of teaching good online behaviors. This workshop explores social media and how you can use it to your advantage. This training gives you the tools and knowledge you need to easily navigate the new world of social media. Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube, and social media tools such as blogs and wikis are introduced during this workshop.
