Short Bio
Dr. Curtis Chandler is an educator, author, researcher, fun-expert, education consultant, and learning evangelist. When on-stage, Curtis’ keynotes blend research, learning strategies, and suggested teaching practices with comedy, music, and storytelling. Off-stage, Curtis works with school districts around the country to improve instructional technology, collaboration, student and teacher engagement, curriculum, assessment, and the instructional capacity of teachers and schools.
Long Bio
Curtis earned his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Kansas State University. For over a decade, he has coached teachers and taught literacy, tech-integration, and STEM courses in grades K-12. He has worked with the Center for Teacher Quality, the Council of Chief State School Officers, the Mid-American Association for Computers in Education, and with school districts around the nation to improve student learning through the use of instructional technology, problem-based learning, game-based learning, literacy and STEM instruction, and the implementation of College and Career Readiness standards.
Curtis’ innovative practices have reached hundreds of thousands of educators through his blog, Class App’s. His teaching ideas were also featured in Rick Hess’ recent book, The Cage Busting Teacher. Curtis regularly guest blogs Ed Week and MiddleWeb. He also hosts the nationally syndicated podcast, Better Learning for Schools. Curtis was named the Kansas State Teacher of the Year in 2011 and was also an inductee into the Mid-America Educator Hall of Fame. He currently is a professor of Teacher Education at BYU-Idaho. Above all, he enjoys spending time with his wife and favorite “students”–his four young sons.
