Andre Daughty
DIFFERENTIATED CURRICULUM SPECIALIST / SPEAKER / ARTIST
Short Bio
Andre Daughty’s (pronounced dow-tee) educational journey began after hearing Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu state, “If you observe children, they will teach you how to teach them.” That phrase shifted his philosophy on how students learn. By observing students, he differentiated curriculum through rap, composing music, art, poetry and projects based on his students’ interests watching them soar to new heights. Using the same philosophy, he’s been able to provide meaningful experiences for students and educators in schools and conferences. Andre has been fortunate to speak to audiences across the nation sharing thoughtful and humorous stories about how all students can truly learn. His workshops develop authentic high-quality professional development through building culture while keeping it real. He enjoys inspiring tomorrow’s leaders today!

FROM PRESCHOOL TO PRISON: GOING FROM STRUGGLING TO SURVIVE TO SUCCESSFUL THRIVE
Each year, millions of preschoolers walk into classrooms for the first time excited about learning and elated to start their journey of education. By their freshman year in high school, those same students dread attending school, with many dropping out. Never developing college and career ready success skills, thousands of students transition from the joys of preschool to the dejected lows of prison. This pipeline can be conceptualized as a series of roadblocks and obstacles that hinder children, especially children of color, from academic success but funnel them into the criminal justice system.
This keynote explores where the gap originated and how schools, districts and communities are combatting the preschool to prison pipeline. It is possible to go from surviving to thriving! The general session provides awareness to help steer students away from preschool to prison but from preschool to prosperity using practical strategies to engage students using research based strategies, protocols, culture builders, technology and laughter!

HOW FUN CAN INCREASE ENGAGEMENT IN ASSESSMENTS
Game-Based Learning (GBL) and Gamification are finally gaining some real traction in the teaching community. Using games allows subject-specific content and relevant educational standards to be embedded in an immersive game experience. Some teachers have been using video games for as long as they have had computers. They valued the strategy of presenting material in a variety of ways in order to reach different kinds of intelligences and learning styles, and this workshop uses that same approach. In this play with me session, we will play a game using the web tool, Kahoot, then customize or create a game you can use with your students, class, or organization.
